the weekend in pictures...

Happy Friday everyone! How was your week? I hope after the long weekend last week, it was short and sweet. I'm working tomorrow but I am still feeling the happy Friday vibes, as my best friend Lucy is coming over tonight and tomorrow my friends from Winchester are visiting the North. So this weekend may be bite sized but still delicious, where as I guess last weekend was more like an all you can eat buffet... in more ways than one!

I headed home for Easter with the family. In many ways our long weekend, wasn't particularly festive (is that the right word?), while every morning started with a heft breakfast of hot cross buns, a lot of the other Easter trimmings were missing. No huge roast and, for the first time ever, no Easter Eggs to roll down the stairs (a family tradition), however just cos it might not have looked like our usual family time, didn't mean it didn't feel like it.

I got the train back to York after work on Thursday meaning I could wake up at home on Friday, rather than spend the day in public holiday public transport purgatory. We didn't much fancy battling crowds or venturing too far in the rain, so instead we popped over to Beverly, in search of coffee, and very little else. We nipped in and out of a few shops, including The Vintage Shop (which unfortunately peaked with the bike) and a delicious coffee and tea emporium where I picked up some fresh leaf wild strawberry tea, and another packet called 'Caravan' which is far more tropical tasting than the name would suggest! That evening I headed over to a friends house for wine, a long over due catch up and cuddles with an over excited pooch or two. Which honestly I tried to photograph but those guys do not stay still, unless well, erm... the less said on that the better...

Saturday was spent shopping with my mum, where I picked up the above shirt dress from M&S (seriously my favourite shop these days) in the sale, drooled over some stationary and invested in some good quality brogues, before heading home to cook up a big old pile of veg.

A sunny Sunday was spent in Scarborough. I can't believe how gorgeous the weather is right now, can it please just stay like this until September? Of course sunshine and bank holidays meant the coast was bedlam but I honestly didn't mind, it was just good to be out, and shaking off those cob webs once and for all! That night we feasted on curry, and spent some good old family time playing Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly.

I didn't want to be too late back in Blackburn, so after visiting Nanna J Monday morning I caught my train back to my corner of the world, and stared out the window at the hills passing by, and for the first time in forever just got that urge to write everything down in my notebook. It honestly felt SO GOOD. I just sat there with this grin on my face. I don't really know how to explain it, but I could just feel this marked improvement in my mood, like things that I hadn't even realised had been bothering me had just slipped away leaving me feeling lighter. I must have been in a good mood because when I got home, I went for a run, and then whipped up ^that^ plate of goodness, which I will be posting the recipe for on Wednesday.

The long weekend obviously did me the world of good, and I hope it did for you too! What are you up to this weekend? Anything exciting or did you wear yourself out over Easter?

Live life & eat a chocolate egg for me, because as you may have noticed I didn't have a single one this year x

  2. Ooh it sounds like such a lovely weekend. We didn't get up to very over Easter, I just caught up with a couple of friends I hadn't seen in a while. This weekend I am meeting up with Toni from Lemon Freckles in Sheffield which will no doubt involve lots of cake! Speaking of which we should try and arrange another Manchester meet up soon! :) xxx

  3. My Easter was really swell! Except I gained a lot of weight because all I did was eat too much, haha! <3 Beautiful photos, especially those boats though!

  4. Beautiful pics! I didn't have a particularly festive Easter either, but it was goooooood. How did you manage to play Monopoly with your family without wanting to murder someone? Haha :)

  6. Hi Stephie! Really enjoyed reading your post. I don't live with my family and I can relate to suddenly feeling good about life again after spending time with them in your home. :) Glad you had a long weekend recharge and that you have loads of things planned out for this one!

  7. That shirt dress is absolutely gorgeous! I never think to look in M&S but may need to go and investigate now!

Your Easter sounds perfect, I went back home to see the family in Norfolk which unfortunately was under a huge blanket of cloud and so absolutely freezing! I missed the North East heatwave! Gutted!

Hope you managed to find yourself an Easter Egg in the supermarket sale :)

  8. […] me know if you try this, or if you adapt it in anyway. I made this for the first time, after the overly indulgent Easter weekend, as it was made up just from what I had left in the fridge, but isn’t that how all the best […]

  9. Looks like a lovely bank holiday, I honestly think that is the best bit about them, a standard weekend isn't quite enough to shrug off the worries of the working week, where as that extra day or two allows you to relax properly. Xx
